Anyone Who Sees One Of These On The Beach Should Keep Their Dog As Far Away As Possible

People come across all sorts of odd things on the beach. Unfortunately, some of these unusual findings are the products of pollution, and they can actually be hazardous to humans and animals who come into contact with them.

A woman on the English coast was taking her dog for a walk on the beach when, suddenly, he started tugging at his leash. Clearly something had caught his attention!

Finally, the woman saw what was making her dog so excited. It was a chunky, white lump that gave off a powerful aroma. At first she thought it was a jellyfish, but then she looked closer… and recoiled in horror.

Beaches are known to produce some pretty strange findings. The ocean contains all sorts of odd things, and sometimes they wash ashore for sunbathers to stumble upon. One woman recently came across something unusual while on the beach, and when she learned what it was, she gasped in horror.

The English woman had been taking a stroll with her dog on her local beach when she came across a strange white substance that washed up on shore. At first, it looked like some kind of jellyfish, but the truth was even weirder.

Her dog was excited to investigate, but when the woman realized what it was, she was horrified. Believe it or not, it was a lump of solid fat! These so-called “fatbergs” (like icebergs, except that they are literally made of fat) are becoming increasingly common, and these environmentally unfriendly formations are indicators of a much bigger problem…

The white deposits are formed when dirty cooking oil combines with trash and solidifies in the sewer system. The cooking oil acts as a binding agent that turns huge masses of garbage into hardened rock.

When these lumps make it from the sewer into the open ocean, they can eventually wash up on shore. It’s more common to see small fatbergs, but occasionally an enormous one makes its way from the ocean onto land.

Fatbergs aren’t just gross, either. In fact, they’re highly toxic and can be very harmful to pets, specifically dogs. Many beaches have signs warning swimmers and sunbathers to stay away from these formations if they see them.

Fatbergs carry countless bacteria since they consist entirely of old cooking oil and garbage, and prolonged exposure to them is extremely harmful to both humans and animals. Beachgoers are instructed to alert lifeguards if they see them.

Even though fatbergs are found primarily on beaches, they’re starting to creep into other places as well. The high amount of dangerous bacteria they contain makes them harmful to any surrounding environment in which they’re found.

Workers in London have identified them as the cause of massive plumbing problems all over the city. Those brave souls who help clean out the underground sewer systems are coming across more and more of these disgusting pieces of solidified bacteria each day.

The largest reported fatberg was found in the London sewer system and weighed 15 tons! A lot of that mass was from non-degradable wet wipes, too. People need to start disposing of their cooking oil and trash appropriately, or else the fatberg problem will only continue to grow, and that’s something that no one wants to see happen.

Gross! Let this be a lesson to dispose of your used cooking oil responsibly. And cut down on the wet wipes… just use moistened toilet paper to get the job done!
